Wilson, Jr., A Word from Father Drummond Easter Sunday is not just the culmination of Holy Week but is in fact the culmination, the climax of all human history. On Good Friday we see the death on the Cross of the very Author of Life: the words of the Swiss theologian Has Urs von Balthasar "…the world's meaning died and was buried without any hope of the resulting hiatus ever being bridged: there was no hope of ever close the rift opened up by death." In the Temple, the curtain which hid the holy of holies embroidered with all the constellations tore asunder of its own accord at the moment of Christ's death. In one sense history had come to an end. On Holy Saturday as the physical realms hung in the balance, Life itslef entered into the Kingdom of Death and emptied it. Then on the morning of Easter Sunday, the Author of Life re-entered the world of the living and hope blossomed anew, a burst of light to drive away the darkness of sin and doubt with teternal life offered to any who would accept it. On that first Easter Sunday the world was created anew, a world of light, love and life. In every succeeding generation since that first Easter Morning, the carkness of the Old World has fought against the Light, seeking to down the world in fear and hate. But this is nothing more than death throes of the beast. Everytime we are faced with temptation to sin or doubt, everytime we feel ourselves weary when confronted by a society that seems to reject our Lord Jesus Christ, we must remember Easter Morning in rising from the dead our Lord has conquered death. Whenever faced with fear, or suffering, sickness or pain or any kind of darkness, we need only unite ourselves to Christ crucified. In joining ourselves at our lowest moments to Christ suffering in all this God forsakenness, we enter into this Passion in such a way as to more fully realize the true magnitude of Christ risen from the dead. We needs always and everwhere to hold fast to Easter Sunday which is not only the greatest feast of the liturgical calendar, but more importantly, the true beginning of Life. I wish everybody a blessed and Holy Easter and pray that the Light of Easter may shine within you througout the year.
