A Word from Fr. Drummond
On November 30
th
we celebrate the Feast of St. Andrew,
the brother of St. Peter. St. Andrew is the patron of both
Scotland and Russia, as well as the Greek Church. The
saltire of the Flag of Scotland is taken from the cross of St.
Andrew.
Andrew was martyred in Patras, Greece, crucified on an
x-shaped cross. According to Jacobus de Voragine’s The
Golden Legend, Andrew refused to sacrifice to the pagan
gods and so was sentenced to death by the Proconsul
Aegeus (whose wife had been converted and baptized by
Andrew). Affixed to the saltire shaped cross, the Saint
preached to a crowd of twenty thousand. For two days this
continued and the crowd then pressured Aegeus to have
the Saint taken down. Andrew forgave the Proconsul but
wished to fulfill his martyrdom, and the guards who were
ordered to take him down found themselves unable to
move their arms to do so.
A dazzling light from heaven enveloped Andrew, covering
him from sight for half an hour, and as the light faded the
Saint breathed his last. Aegeus’ wife Maximilla, who had
been converted by St. Andrew, took his body to give it a
proper burial. Aegeus was seized by a demon on his way
home and died in the street as the crowd looked on.

ALERT-BEWARE - Jury Summons
Scam
The following information has been verified on
Snopes.com and by the FBI. Most of us take
Jury Duty Summons seriously, but enough
people skip out on their civic duty that a new
and ominous kind of scam has surfaced. Fall for it and
your identity could be stolen, reports CBS. In this con,
someone calls pretending to be a court official who
threateningly say a warrant has been issued for your arrest
because you didn’t show up for jury duty. The caller claims
to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never
received a summons, the scammer asks you for your
Social Security number and date of birth so he/she can
verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant.
Sometimes they even ask for credit card numbers. Give
out any of this information and your identity just got stolen.
This scam is particularly insidious because they use
intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving
information by pretending they are with the court system.
The FBI and the federal court system have issued
nationwide alerts on their Website, warning consumers
about the fraud.
