St. Catherine of Siena Memorial to the
Unborn – The History
It all began at a meeting of the Church Committee of the
Padre Pio Knights of Columbus Council 10754 in the fall of
1993. Memorials to the unborn had been undertaken as
projects of councils throughout the United States. Don
Kolasch was instrumental from the beginning of this
project. He hoped to take the concept beyond the simple
gravestone usually used. After extensive research a photo
of a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary weeping, (Our Lady
of LaSalette) was selected. The Missionaries of LaSalette
located in Hartford, Connecticut had a replica of the original
statue which is located in the French Alps. Using the
replica statue as the model, Giannetti’s Studio in Maryland
formed the statue. The little angel seen kneeling next to the
gravesite is also the work of the Giannetti Studio. The
tombstone with the inscription from the Book of Jeremiah,
(“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you…” Jer 1:5)
was produced by T.A. Sullivan & Sons, of Arlington.
This magnificent statue is located on the wooded grounds,
between the rectory and the road, under a wrought iron
arbor. The winding gravel pathway that leads to the
memorial also leads to the Stations of the Cross. The
Stations were constructed as an Eagle Scout project, under
the direction of Antonio Vives, and restored by Chuck
Porter. This meditation garden, where the memorial is
located is serene and beautiful, a place to reflect and pray.
Particular acknowledgement and special thanks to the
following for their commitment to this beautiful memorial.
Fr. Jerome Fasano, Fr. Thomas Vander Woude, The
Knights of Columbus and their families, Giannetti’s Studio,
T.A. Sullivan, Wm. Foley Construction, and the many
volunteer parishioners.
Next week’s bulletin will feature the story of Our Lady of
LaSalette.

Eucharistic Adoration and Holy Hour
Every Wednesday and First Friday there is exposition of
the Blessed Sacrament beginning after the 9:00 a.m. Mass
and ending at 8:55 a.m. the next day.
Holy Hour is every Wednesday and every First Friday at
7:30 p.m.
Adorers Urgently Needed
Are you in need of some quiet time? Do you wish
someone would just listen for a change? Are you tired of
being ignored? Well, Someone is waiting for you. He is
patient and kind. He is never jealous or pompous. He is
not rude or quick tempered. He does not rejoice over
wrong-doing. He rejoices in the truth and He is waiting for
you! So, come to Him in the Blessed Sacrament. Spend
time with Him in adoration.
We are in urgent need of more adorers for Wednesdays
and First Fridays, both for the day and night hours. Please
prayerfully consider whether you can make a commitment
to spend an hour with our Lord. Please call Anneke
Coleman at 703.759.2599 if you can help.

“I will build my Church!” –
An Introduction to the Acts of the Apostles
What was the early Church like? Who were the first
Christians? How did the Apostles spread the Catholic faith
throughout the world? What does their example have to do
with us today?
This bible study is an introduction to the Acts of the
Apostles. While it builds on our previous bible study of the
Gospel of St. Luke, we will take a beginner’s approach.
There is no prior knowledge of scripture necessary.
All are welcome: parishioners and non-parishioners,
Catholics and non-Catholics. Please bring your Bible.

Annual March for Life – January 22
nd
“Protection of the equal right to
life of each innocent human in
existence;
fertilization;
no
exceptions, no compromise!“ This
is the theme of the 2007 March
for Life. Join us in taking a stand
against the evils of abortion for
the right to life. A bus will be
available
to
transport
parishioners after the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Monday, January 22
nd
.
A sign up sheet is available in the Narthex. Another option to
witness at the capital would to be to consider car-pooling.
The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against
their children and women against men. It has portrayed the
greatest of gifts – a child – as a competitor, an intrusion,
and an inconvenience. –

Holy Family Enthronement-
Junior Legion of Mary
Enthrone the Sacred Heart of
Jesus as King in your home!
Children from St. Catherine’s
Junior Legion of Mary will
come to your home and pray
with you and conduct the
enthronement ceremony. By
means of this 45-minute
ceremony you will dedicate
your family to the Holy Family.
The Jr. Legion will supply you
with an image of the Holy
Family of Fatima, which is
blessed by Fr. Drummond, or use your own-framed image
of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Enthroning the Holy Family
portrait in a prominent place in your home opens your
family to the special graces Jesus promised to St. Margaret
Mary Alacoque and its powerful protection. The Holy
Family of Fatima portrait is centered on the Sacred and
Eucharistic Heart of the Child Jesus, and is ideal for
families. You may sign up in the narthex at the Junior
Legion of Mary station (sign up sheet is on a clipboard), or
e-mail CathyFairbain@yahoo.com, or call 703.430.7969
and leave a message. Include your name and phone
number when you sign up. Someone will call you back to
schedule a time for the enthronement ceremony.
Junior Legion of Mary

feet, her gentleness, her compassion. Are
you being called to participate in the Junior
Legion of Mary? Come and learn how to

perform enthronements and other spiritual
works of mercy. We meet every Wednesday
from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. in Padre Pio Hall. For

St. Francis de Sales – January 24th
AKA: Francis of Sales; Gentle Christ of Geneva; the
Gentleman Saint
Born In France in 1567. His parents were
well placed and they intended that he
become a lawyer, enter politics, and carry
on the family line and power. He studied
at La Roche, Annecy, Clermont College in
Paris, and law at the University of Padua.
As a Doctor of Law, he returned home
and found a position as Senate Advocate.
It was at this point that he received a
message telling him to “Leave all and follow Me.” He took
this as a call to the priesthood, a move his family fiercely
opposed. Priest. Provost of the diocese of Geneva,
Switzerland, a stronghold of Calvinists. Preacher, writer
and spiritual director in the district of Chablais. His simple,
clear explanations of the Catholic doctrine, and his gentle
way with everyone, brought many back to the Roman
Church. Bishop of Geneva at age 35. Traveled and
evangelized throughout the Duchy of Savoy, working with
children whenever he could. Friend of St. Vincent de Paul.
Helped found the Order of the Visitation with St. Jeanne de

Creator. We glorify Your Divine Son
present in the Womb of His Holy
Mother Mary. We offer reparation to
you through the Immaculate Heart of
Mary in atonement for the great evil
which takes place within the abortion buildings located
