The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus – June 15
th
Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus came into the
Catholic faith through a Catholic sister known as Saint
Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690). At the age of 24,
Margaret Mary entered the Visitation Convent at Paray-le-
Monial in France. She began to have visions of Our Lord
and on December 27, 1673, on the Feast of St. John, she
began to have visions that lasted for 18 months. Jesus told
her that she was to become his instrument in spreading
devotion to His Sacred Heart. While kneeling before the
Blessed Sacrament, Our Lord appeared to her and invited
her to “rest a long time on His Divine Breast.” Jesus
revealed to her the marvels of the love that His Sacred
Heart had for mankind. Jesus said to her: “My Divine Heart
is so full of love for men and for you in particular that, no
longer able to contain within itself the flames of its burning
charity, it must spread these flames by means of you, and it
must manifest itself to men in order to enrich them with its
precious treasures. I have chosen you to achieve this
grand Crusade of Love.” St. Margaret had frequent visions
of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and according to St.
Margaret Mary, His Divine Heart was “more radiant than
the sun and as transparent as crystal, with its adorable
wound visible, and as a furnace of burning flames.”

Excerpt on “The Eucharist”
[God:] As the sun cannot be divided into light, heat, and
color, the whole of God and the whole of man cannot be
separated under the white mantle of the host. Even if the
host should be divided into a million particles (if it were
possible) in each particle should I be present, whole God
and whole Man.

Don’t Park on The Grass
We have recently spent almost $20,000 on new asphalt on
the road in front of the Church. It is damaging to the
asphalt, as well as our grass, when latecomers to Mass
park in non-designated spaces. It is also a violation of
posted Fire Lanes. If you see someone doing this, please
remind them, as we do not want to resort to towing the
offenders.

Summer Parish Financial Needs
The summer months always present a challenge for the
parish budget because of fluctuating attendance at Sunday
Mass. Although it’s great to get away on vacation, don’t
forget the needs of St. Catherine’s while you are on
holiday. Why not consider giving electronically? The
donation is made automatically. Forms may be obtained
from the parish office. Currently St. Catherine’s offers the
option of once a month, made on the 20
th
of each month
through either electronic transfer via a checking account or
by a credit card.

St. Anthony of Padua – June 13
th
Anthon’s wealthy family wanted
him to be a great nobleman, but for
the sake of Christ he became a
poor Franciscan Priest. When the
remains of St. Berard and his
companions, the first Franciscan
martyrs, were brought to be buried
in his church, Anthony was moved
to leave his order, enter the Friars
Minor, and go to Morocco to
evangelize. Shipwrecked at Sicily,
he joined some other brothers who
were going to Portiuncula. He lived in a cave at San Paolo
leaving only to attend Mass and sweep the nearby
monastery. One day when a scheduled speaker failed to
appear, the brothers pressed him into speaking. He
impressed them so that he was thereafter constantly
traveling, evangelizing, preaching and teaching theology
throughout Italy and France. A gifted speaker, he attracted
crowds everywhere he went, speaking in multiple tongues;
legend says that even the fish loved to listen. One of the
most beloved of saints, he was proclaimed a Doctor of the
Church on 16 January 1946.
Patranage: against shipwrecks, against starvation,
American Indians, amputees, animals, barrenness,
boatmen, elderly people, expectant mothers, faith in the
Blessed Sacrament, fishermen, harvest, lost articles.
The Immaculate Heart of Mary – June 16
th
In its principal object this feast is
identical with the feast of the “Inner
Life of Mary”, celebrated by the
Sulpitians on 19 October.
It
commemorates the joys and sorrows
of the Mother of God, her virtues and
perfections, her love for God and her
Divine Son, and her compassionate
love for mankind. In a subordinate
manner, its object is also the physical
Heart of Mary, which being part of her sinless and virginal
body, is the symbol and sensible object representing the
sentiments and virtues of Mary. The feast originated with
Blessed John Eudes as the patronal feast of his
congregations of priests and nuns, and was, since 1644,
kept at the seminary of Caen on 20 October. The office,
which is very beautiful, was composed by Blessed John
Eudes in 1641. In 1647 the feast was solemnized publicly
for the first time, with the permission of Bishop Ragny, at
the cathedral of Autun on 8 February 1648.
Remember to Pray the Rosary
