A Word from Fr. Drummond
On November 30
th
we celebrate the Feast of St. Andrew,
the brother of St. Peter. St. Andrew is the patron of both
Scotland and Russia, as well as the Greek Church. The
saltire of the Flag of Scotland is taken from the cross of St.
Andrew.
Andrew was martyred in Patras, Greece, crucified on an
x-shaped cross. According to Jacobus de Voragine’s The
Golden Legend, Andrew refused to sacrifice to the pagan
gods and so was sentenced to death by the Proconsul
Aegeus (whose wife had been converted and baptized by
Andrew). Affixed to the saltire shaped cross, the Saint
preached to a crowd of twenty thousand. For two days this
continued and the crowd then pressured Aegeus to have
the Saint taken down. Andrew forgave the Proconsul but
wished to fulfill his martyrdom, and the guards who were
ordered to take him down found themselves unable to
move their arms to do so.
A dazzling light from heaven enveloped Andrew, covering
him from sight for half an hour, and as the light faded the
Saint breathed his last. Aegeus’ wife Maximilla, who had
been converted by St. Andrew, took his body to give it a
proper burial. Aegeus was seized by a demon on his way
home and died in the street as the crowd looked on.
Pray for our Military Service Personnel

women serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and
other dangerous parts of the world,

The Blessed Sacrament
THIS IS MY BODY – THIS IS MY BLOOD
God desires to speak a new word to everyone concerning
Eucharistic Adoration. God wants to bless each and every
person with deeper faith in our Eucharistic Lord.
Seek to grow in faith in the Eucharist. Jesus – Emmanuel
– God with us was first veiled in humanity. Jesus is now
veiled in bread and wine. It takes faith to believe in the
historic Jesus. It takes faith to recognize Jesus clothed in
humanity. It takes faith to recognize Jesus in bread and
wine. If we can remove the veil that hides Jesus in the
Eucharist, we will more easily find Him in all the other ways
He desires to be present with us.
Eucharistic Adoration and Holy Hour
There are times when a scheduled adorer may need a
substitute to fill in for them. When this happens, please
utilize the substitute call list.
To sign up for adoration or for information regarding
adoration please contact Diane Cieslak 703.678.3919.
Holy Hour is at 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday and First
Friday.
24 hour Eucharistic Adoration is every Wednesday and
every First Friday, beginning after the 9:00 a.m. Mass and
ending the following morning just before the 9:00 a.m.
Mass.

through the Bible”
What is the story of salvation? Do you
know the people and places of the Holy
Bible, but wonder what they have to do with
the big picture? Would you like to learn

study is an introduction to the main story of the Bible: the
History of Salvation.
Through this Bible study, you will easily learn:

? What are the major events of the Bible?
Using the Holy Bible, the Catechism, and the wisdom of the
Church Fathers, along with Scott Hahn’s “A Father Who

“My Kingdom is not of this
World”
Christ the King is one of the names of Jesus derived from
various scriptures. It is a name used by all Christians and
celebrated as the Feast of Christ the King.
The name is found in various forms in scripture:
King Eternal (1 Tim. 1:17),
King of Israel (John 1:49),
King of the Jews (Mt. 27:11),
King of kings (1 Tim 6:15; Rev. 19:16),
King of the Ages (Rev. 15:3),
Ruler of the Kings of the Earth (Rev. 1:5)
Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews is the inscription which
the gospels report was placed on the cross by the Romans
and which is found on many crucifixes.
The ideological movement of Christ’s Kingship was
addressed in the encyclical Quas primas of Pope Pius XI,
published in 1925. The Pontiff’s encyclical quotes with
approval Cyril of Alexandria, noting that Jesus’ Kingship is
not obtained by violence: “Christ, he says, “has dominion
over all creatures, a dominion not seized by violence nor
usurped, but his by essence and by nature.”
Pope Benedict XVI has remarked, as did his predecessor
John Paul II, that Christ’s Kingship is not based on “human
power” but on loving and serving others.
