St. Catherine of Siena
One day Catherine’s father happened upon her
while she was on her knees deep in prayer and saw a
white dove hovering over her head. Puzzled yet
eventually convinced of their daughter’s vocation, her
parents decided to give Catherine the freedom to live
as she felt called. A small, dimly lit room was set
apart for her private use, and it was here that she
gave herself to even more prayer and fasting.
At seventeen, after a dream in which St. Dominic
beckoned her, Catherine took on the habit of a Third
Order Dominican. The tertiaries of that time followed
an approved rule of life in the spirit of St. Dominic,
wore a Dominican habit, but remained living at home.

The Blessed Sacrament
Think about what a gift it is to know Jesus is truly present in
the Eucharist. This means Jesus, who sits at the right
hand of the Father is present in this wafer of bread. He
comes to us daily to nourish us, to heal us, to sustain us.
The Almighty Savior humbles Himself to come to us under
the appearance of bread and wine at each and every
Eucharist. What a precious gift!

Church Fathers, along with Scott Hahn’s “A Father Who

The Icon of Divine Mercy
On the weekend of December 9
th
, the
Icon of Divine Mercy will be visiting our
parish. This particular image is a replica
of the icon of Divine Mercy displayed in
Krakow, Poland where the late, Holy
Father, John Paul II dedicated the whole
world to Divine Mercy. This is a true icon
painted for the Diocese of Arlington, by
Polish artist, Anna Sekowska who fasted
and prayed during the creation of the
icon. This icon will remain with us for
one week, giving us the unique
opportunity to pray together as a parish for the healing of
families. Accompanying the icon will be five smaller
replicas of the icon. These replicas will go to five families
in our parish who have agreed to pray one rosary and one
Divine Mercy chaplet each day that the icon remains in
their possession. All families are encouraged to participate
by taking one of the prayer cards with the same image that
will be provided by the Office for Family Life and to unite
their prayers with everyone in the diocese for peace and
healing in families.

the future marriage. Couples who

Do Catholics Pray TO Saints?
We pray with saints, not to them. Have you ever asked
anyone to pray for you when you were having a hard time?
Why did you choose to ask that person? You may have
chosen someone you could trust, or someone who
understood your problem, or someone who was close to
God. Those are all reasons we ask saints to pray for us in
times of trouble. Since saints led holy lives and are close
to God in heaven, we feel that their prayers are particularly
effective. Often we ask particular saints to pray for us if we
feel they have a particular interest in our problem. For
example, many people ask Saint Monica to pray for them if
they have trouble with unanswered prayers, because
Monica prayed for twenty years for her son to be
converted. Finally her prayers were answered in a way she
never dreamed of – her son, Augustine, became a
canonized saint and a Doctor of the Church.
From the Vatican
The Holy Father’s Prayer Intention - October 2007
General: That the Christians who are in minority
situations may have the strength and courage to live their
faith and persevere in bearing witness to it.
Mission: That the incarnation of the Son of God, which the
Church celebrates solemnly at Christmas, may help the
peoples of the Asiatic Continent to recognize God’s Envoy,
the only Savior of the world, in Jesus.
