A Word from the Pastor
Last weekend St. Catherine’s had its annual Day of
Recollection with the theme of service to Christ. We had
about sixty participants and Father John Hopkins, in his
very dynamic style, challenged us all to get more involved
in parish life as a means of giving service to Christ. Too
often, our involvement in the parish is restricted to Mass
attendance, but how much do we truly give of ourselves?
St. Catherine’s has a wide variety of parish groups and
organization through which we can more readily live out our
Faith and even help to spread it – and have fun at the
same time!
We have a new booklet detailing the many
organizations St. Catherine’s offers which was distributed
at all Masses last week. This weekend we have
Commitment Sunday. Please think of how you can get
more involved because the more you contribute of yourself
to the parish the more you will receive. Special thanks go
to Deeda Caldenazzo and Cris Tallent for their fine work in
making this day happen.
SPECIAL THANKS
My special thanks go to Martha Dillon and the Over-Fifty
Club for the wonderful birthday party they hosted to
celebrate my 50
th
birthday – It was WONDERFUL!
Pray for our Military Service Personnel
Please keep in your prayers our men and women
serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, especially:
Jordan Bowren, Jeff Campbell, Douglas Dillon,
Brendan McCarthy, Mark O’Neil, Matthew Rowell

The Blessed Sacrament
THIS IS MY BODY – THIS IS MY BLOOD
Some might ask why we want to see Jesus in the
Eucharist. There are many reasons. To see Jesus is
important, because Jesus is our connection to the Father.
This is the goal and purpose of humanity – to be connected
to the Father. Since Jesus is our connection, we want to
know everywhere that He is present. We want to know that
He dwells in our hearts through faith; we want to know that
He dwells in the assembly, we want to know that He dwells
in our brothers and sisters; we want to know that He dwells
in the word of God. We want to know that He dwells in the
sacraments. We want to know everywhere Jesus is,
because He is the one who is going to connect us to the
Father.

Feast of All Souls
A Mass for the Feast of All Souls
will be celebrated on Friday,
November 2, 2007 at 7:30 p.m.

Catherine of Siena Choir will

Today is Commitment Sunday
To Know Christ, To Love Christ, To Serve Christ
John Paul II in his
Apostolic Exhortation “The
Lay Members of Christ’s
Faithful People,” #27,
exhorts “all lay men and
women” to the following
passage from Vatican
Council II: “Their activity
within Church communities
is so necessary that
without it the apostolate of
the pastors is generally
unable to achieve its full
effectiveness.”
“The lay faithful should
accustom themselves to
working in the parish in close union with their priests … As
far as possible the lay faithful ought to collaborate in every
apostolic and missionary undertaking sponsored by their
own ecclesial family …”
#28 “Therefore, God calls the individual in Jesus Christ,
each one personally by name. In this sense the Lord’s
words “You too go into my vineyard,” directed to the
Church as a whole, come specially addressed to each
member individually.
Because of each member’s unique and irrepeatable
character – that is, one’s identity and actions as a person –
each individual is placed at the service of the growth of the
ecclesial community while, at the same time, singularly
receiving and sharing in the common richness of all the
Church… The good of all becomes the good of each one
and the good of each one becomes the good of all.”
In order to be a true ecclesial community the parish
needs your time and talents! John Paul II in Catechesi
Tradentae, defines the parish thusly, “The parish is not
principally a structure, a territory, or a building but rather,
the family of God, a fellowship afire with a unifying spirit, a
familial and welcoming home…”
Let us rekindle this fellowship and unifying spirit, please
stop by the narthex and visit our Parish Ministry and
Organization Expo and discover all the fabulous
opportunities where you can serve Christ in our Parish!!
Sign up today – together we can make a difference.

Adult Bible Study
“From Adam to Jesus – A Journey
through the Bible”
What is the story of salvation? Do you
know the people and places of the Holy
Bible, but wonder what they have to do
with the big picture? Would you like to
learn about Adam, Noah, Abraham,
Moses, David, Jesus, Peter and Paul?
This Bible study is an introduction to the main story of the
Bible: the History of Salvation.
Through this Bible study, you will easily learn:
► What is the Bible and how is it organized?
► How to read and study the Bible?
► Who are the main characters of the Bible?
► What are the major events of the Bible?
Using the Holy Bible, the Catechism, and the wisdom of the
Church Fathers, along with Scott Hahn’s “A Father Who
Keeps His Promises: God’s Covenant Love in Scripture
and Jeff Cavins’ “The Great Adventure” we will explore the
passages of the Holy Bible with our eyes toward the big
picture of Salvation History.

Save The Date! Weekend of November 11th
Father Cliff Ermatinger, who spent Holy
Week here at St. Catherine, will return the
weekend of November 11
th
to preach at all
the Masses and hold a special book-
signing after all the Masses for his new
book: Common Nonsense: 25 Fallacies
about Life. The book addresses a variety
of philosophical and moral issues in a deft
and eloquent fashion.
Common
Nonsense captures the essence of
twenty-five secular arguments and displays their
fundamental claims in a straightforward fashion revealing
the absurd and even comical ideas from which they stem.
It’s a great read!

The Icon of Divine Mercy
On the weekend of December 9
th
, the
Icon of Divine Mercy will be visiting our
parish. This particular image is a replica
of the icon of Divine Mercy displayed in
Krakow, Poland where the late, Holy
Father, John Paul II dedicated the whole
world to Divine Mercy. This is a true icon
painted for the Diocese of Arlington, by
Polish artist, Anna Sekowska who fasted
and prayed during the creation of the
icon. This icon will remain with us for
one week, giving us the unique
opportunity to pray together as a parish for the healing of
families. Accompanying the icon will be five smaller
replicas of the icon. These replicas will go to five families
in our parish who have agreed to pray one rosary and one
Divine Mercy chaplet each day that the icon remains in
their possession. All families are encouraged to participate
by taking one of the prayer cards with the same image that
will be provided by the Office for Family Life and to unite
their prayers with everyone in the diocese for peace and
healing in families.
