St. Catherine of Siena
When Catherine returned to Siena from Florence, she
found the city devastated with the plague, which would
tragically take the life of up to one-third of the local
population. She and her band of followers worked night
and day to relieve the many plague sufferers. A priest who
knew Catherine from childhood later noted, "Never did she
appear more admirable than at this time. She was always
with the plague-stricken: she prepared them for death; she
buried them with her own hands. I myself witnessed the
joy with which she nursed them and the wonderful efficacy
of her words, which brought about many conversions."
Some, including Blessed Raymond of Capua, were
miraculously healed of this deadly disease because of her
prayers.

The Baptism of The Lord
1 John 2:29
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and said,
"Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the
world. He is the one of whom I said, 'A man is coming after
me who ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.'
I did not know him, but the reason why I came baptizing
with water was that he might be made known to Israel."
John testified further, saying, "I saw the Spirit come down
like a dove from the sky and remain upon him. I did not
know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water
told me, 'On whomever you see the Spirit come down and
remain, he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.'
Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God."
From the Vatican
The Holy Father's Prayer Intention for

General:
That the Church may strengthen her commitment to full
visible unity in order to manifest ever more clearly her
nature as a community of love in which is reflected the
communion of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Mission:
That the Church in Africa, preparing to celebrate the
second Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for
Africa, may continue to be a sign and channel of
reconciliation and justice in a continent still suffering from
war, exploitation and poverty.
