A Word from Fr. Drummond
Through the great generosity of one of our families, St.
Catherine's now has a new hymnal, The St. Michael
Hymnal, to replace both the Worship and the Gregorian
Missal. The St. Michael Hymnal contains the ordinary of
the Mass, both in Latin and English, as well as a good
selection of traditional hymns with the traditional words.
The story of the St. Michael Hymnal is a heartening one
in which one Catholic parish, St. Boniface in Lafayette,
Indiana got fed up with hymnals that increasingly discard or
rewrite traditional Catholic hymns, and decided to compile
its own hymnal. This hymnal reflects the true spirit of the
Second Vatican Council, citing Sacrosanctum Concilcium,
the constitution on Sacred Liturgy: "The musical tradition of
the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value..."
The hymnal became so popular that St. Boniface Church
began to produce it en masse for parishes all over the
country seeking a respite from the mediocre hymnals
ordinarily available.
In the immediate area both Our Lady of Hope in Potomac
Falls, and St. John the Beloved in McLean use this hymnal.
It is exciting to have a new hymnal that holds to the
traditional lyrics of the old beloved hymns.
Please say a prayer for the donors of this wonderful
addition to our Church.
With Great Appreciation
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Knights
of Columbus, to Fr. Drummond, and to all the parishioners
of St. Catherine's and St. John the Beloved who donated
so generously. Between the two parishes, just since last
June, over $44,260.00 was raised to enable me to continue
my studies in Rome. The generosity of all of you is really a
miracle, a great sign of God's love for me. Thank you all. -
- Fr. Alphonse Kobore.
Pray for our Military Service Personnel
Please keep in your prayers our men and
women serving in dangerous parts of the
world, especially:
Jordan Bowren, Jeff Campbell, Douglas Dillon,
Christopher Frediani, Joe Gibson,
Chad Godfrey, Bryan Grimes, Erik Hood, Brian
Horn, Brendan McCarthy, Matt McKee, Chris
Nagle, Mark O'Neil, Matthew Rowell.

Prayer to the Spirit of Truth
Holy Spirit, You are the promised Spirit of Truth, constantly
revealing the splendor of truth to Your people, and leading
us deeper into the Mysteries of our Faith.
Come to us today, and deepen in our minds and hearts
the truth about life: its greatness, its dignity, and its
reflection of the eternal God. Make us appreciate ever
more the truth that life is always a good, and that every life
is of equal dignity, despite all the different characteristics
people have, or the different circumstances under which
they come to be.
Come, Spirit of Truth. Free all Your people from the
falsehoods that leads to the evil of abortion. Free them
from the false and harmful ideas which make a god out of
their own choices, or which fail to recognize the right to life
of children in the womb.
Come, O Holy Spirit, and as You immerse us in Your
truth, so make us effective witnesses of that truth within our
families, among our friends, and to the entire world. Amen.

The Holy Father's Prayer Intention for
January 2008
General:
That the Church may strengthen her commitment to full
visible unity in order to manifest ever more clearly her
nature as a community of love in which is reflected the
communion of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Mission:
That the Church in Africa, preparing to celebrate the
second Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for
Africa, may continue to be a sign and channel of
reconciliation and justice in a continent still suffering from
war, exploitation and poverty.
