St. Catherine of Siena
Although called by God to a very active apostolate,
Catherine's whole life was very much rooted in prayer.
Blessed Raymond remarked, "As soon as she was freed
from the occupations in which she was engaged for the
work of souls, at once, one might say almost by a natural
process, her mind was raised to the things of heaven."
By 1370 she gave up eating altogether and subsisted the
last ten years of her life on the Eucharist alone. She
received the stigmata in 1375 while praying in front of a
crucifix in a church in Pisa. She fainted from the pain and
the wounds remained, although they were invisible to all
but Catherine until her death, when others could see the
stigmata on her body.
Catherine delivered many from diabolical possessions,
performed many miracles, frequently levitated during
prayer, and was graced with a very intimate relationship
with Jesus and the Blessed Mother.

The Blessed Sacrament
THIS IS MY BODY - THIS IS MY BLOOD
The Divine Mercy Prayer is a useful tool for building faith:
Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and
Divinity of your dearly beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world; for
the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and
on the whole world.
This devotion takes on a powerful new focus, calling people
to a deeper understanding that God's love is unlimited and
available to everyone - especially the greatest sinners.
This message of mercy was revealed to a young Polish
nun, St. Faustina Kowalska

The Significance of First Friday's
The customary observance of the first Friday of each
month, encouraged by the Church, is based on a promise
made to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690), that
special favors, such as the grace of final perseverance,
would be given to those who received Holy Communion on
nine successive first Fridays.
Our Lord appeared to St. Margaret-Mary Alacoque asking
her to receive Him in Holy Communion on the first Friday of
every month and to meditate on His passion from 11:00
p.m. to 12:00 midnight each Thursday. He also revealed to
her twelve promises for all who are devoted to Most His
Sacred Heart.
1. "I will give them all the graces necessary in their state
of life."
2. "I will establish peace in their homes."
3. "I will comfort them in their afflictions."
4. "I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all
in death."
5. "I will bestow a large blessing upon all their
undertakings."
6. "Sinners shall find in My Heart the source and the
infinite ocean of mercy."
7. "Tepid souls shall grow fervent."
8. "Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection."
9. "I will bless every place where a picture of My Heart
shall be set up and honored."
10. "I will give to priests the gift of touching the most
hardened hearts."
11."Those who shall promote this devotion shall have
their names written in My Heart, never to be blotted
out."
12."I promise thee in the excessive mercy of My Heart
that My all-powerful love will grant to all those who
communicate on the First Friday in nine consecutive
months, the grace of final penitence; they shall not
die in My disgrace nor without receiving the
Sacraments; My Divine Heart shall be their safe
refuge in this last moment."
The Significance of First Saturday's
The First Saturday Devotions are a Roman Catholic
practice, which, according to the visionaries, has been
recommended by the Virgin Mary in several visitations,
notably Our Lady of Fatima. Catholics honour the Virgin on
Saturdays because they believe that as the Mother of
Jesus Christ she must have suffered a great deal and had
much faith on Holy Saturday, before the Resurrection on
Easter. Devotees of Fatima believe that the First
Saturdays help to console the sorrows of God, Jesus, and
the Virgin Mary for the sins of the world.
From the Vatican
The Holy Father's Prayer Intention for
January 2008
General:
That the Church may strengthen her commitment to full
visible unity in order to manifest ever more clearly her
nature as a community of love in which is reflected the
communion of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Mission:
That the Church in Africa, preparing to celebrate the
second Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for
Africa, may continue to be a sign and channel of
reconciliation and justice in a continent still suffering from
war, exploitation and poverty.
Olive Tree Of Mercy
O Olive tree of mercy! Hail Mary, Mother of God.
Hail Mary, Queen of Kindness, and Olive Tree of Mercy,
from whom the remedy of life came to us.
Since, by your Son, you became the true Mother of all
mankind, now for the sake of His love, keep me in your
motherly love, despite my unworthiness.
Help me to believe! Preserve and strengthen my faith.
Grant me your care in this life, and receive me with the
plentitude of your motherhood at the hour of my death.
Amen.
- St. Gertrude the Great
